Give them what they want?  And let’s just get this out of the way first:  to the extent that you, dear reader, are lumped in with ‘they’ in this song’s twisted paradigm, my sincerest apologies.   Yes, I felt oppressed by the weight of their/your expectations while I composed this long, hard hook of a tune.  “What hook?” I heard one of you mumble out there.  What hook?  The whole thing is a hook!  A hook is simply something that won’t let your mind go, and I’ve spent my musical life in the maddening pursuit of construction of these hooks, so let me tell you, I know a thing or two about hooks!  If you’re going to mumble, keep it down!  I’m trying to work here.
